IHME Report Launch The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) "Building Momentum: Global progress toward reducing maternal and child mortality," at Women Deliver 2010. The global health conference focuses on maternal and reproductive health in Washington, DC, June 7-9. IHME Director Dr. Christopher Murray, Chairman of the Board Dr. Julio Frenk, and Professor of Global Health Dr. Rafael Lozano will be speaking at a number of events throughout Women Deliver 2010, highlighting the progress being made in reducing both maternal and child mortality around the world. Monday, June 7, 2010Report Launch: Building Momentum: Global progress toward reducing maternal and child mortality Christopher Murray will launch IHME’s new report which tracks mortality rates over two decades for each country around the world and highlights unexpected progress. 1:25-1:40: Speaker’s Corner, located directly outside Room 151 Analyzing Progress: A Closer Look at the New Statistics on Maternal Mortality SPEAKERS: Christopher Murray, Director, Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington; Ties Boerma, Director of the Department of Health Statistics and Information, WHO MODERATOR: Sharon Camp, President and CEO, Guttmacher Institute Advocates of maternal health have long held that maternal deaths can be reduced if cost-effective and proven solutions are implemented: better medical care during pregnancy, prevention of unintended pregnancy, treatment for high-risk pregnancies, and appropriate levels of financial investment. New research indicates that maternal deaths have indeed declined over the past three decades.
