IHME Director Dr. Christopher Murray spoke about the monitoring of noncommunicable diseases and their determinants at the First Global Ministerial Conference on Healthy Lifestyles and Noncommunicable Disease Control held in Moscow on April 28-29, 2011.
Dr. Murray spoke at the session called “Monitoring noncommunicable diseases and their determinants,” on Friday, April 29.
The conference was being organized by the World Health Organization and the Russian Federation. The conference aims to raise political awareness of and commitment to the prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases and to strengthen international cooperation in this area, with special emphasis on promoting the upcoming debate at the UN General Assembly High-level Meeting in September 2011.
The conference highlighted evidence relating to the impact of noncommunicable diseases on health and socioeconomic outcomes and presented strategies and instruments to address the epidemic, both within national health plans and the wider development agenda.
