IHME Professor Ali Mokdad and Post-Graduate Fellow Casey Olives lead workshops in Brazil

IHME Professor Ali Mokdad and Post-Graduate Fellow Casey Olives spoke at the Ministry of Health in Brasilia, Brazil on August 10-12, 2011. Dr. Olives led a workshop on small-area estimation methods currently being used in the United States. He also explained how these methods are used with subnational-level data sources to estimate infant mortality in Brazil, and presented estimates of infant mortality for Brazilian municipalities.
Dr. Mokdad led a two-day workshop on the Access, Bottlenecks, Costs, and Equity (ABCE) project, which is a multicountry and multipronged project designed to provide quality evidence for improving the equity and cost effectiveness of health systems. Dr. Mokdad presented the project and discussed its implementation in Brazil, including identifying potential data sources and addressing potential data constraints.
