IHME Lecturer Santosh Kumar, with IHME Post-Bachelor Fellow Rouselle Lavado and Research Assistant Joe Dieleman, will present IHME’s work on researching and tracking health financing at the 4th Biennial Conference of the American Society of Health Economists (ASHEcon). ASHEcon is a professional organization for health economics research in the United States. The 2012 conference theme is “Optimizing Health and Healthcare.”
Dr. Kumar delivers a talk on quality of care as a constraint on the use of health services in India. Dr. Lavado’s topic is estimating out-of-pocket expenditure from household surveys. Dieleman discusses IHME’s findings that across 97 developing countries, development assistance for health channeled to governments is not fully additional, meaning that governments allocate their own funds outside of the health sector upon receiving development assistance for health.
