Public Health–Seattle & King County protects the health of county residents by tracking infectious diseases, promoting proper food handling, ensuring safe drinking water, improving access to health care, and forming partnerships to encourage healthy behaviors.
The MDCC Study is funded by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. Begun in 2009, the project includes data gathering through household surveys, physical examinations, and review of select medical records in the hopes of creating a cost-effective integrated surveillance system. The guiding idea is that if the pilot project proves successful in King County, the approach will be expandable to other locales around the US.
