IHME is trying to identify the best strategies to build a healthier world. We harness all sources of available data and are not dependent on any single measurment or any measurement source. Our research complements the efforts of those already working on health policies and health interventions, and IHME's expertise in measurement and assessment can help strengthen that work through a better understanding of health trends and program performance.

IHME’s research is organized around answering three critical questions that are essential to understanding the current state of population health and the strategies necessary to improve it.

  • What are the world's major health problems?
  • How well is society addressing these problems?
  • How do we best dedicate resources to maximize health improvement?

Research Areas

These critical questions provide the framework for IHME’s four research areas: Measuring Health, Tracking Performance, Maximizing Impact, and Innovative Measurement Systems
