Department of Health Systems Financing, World Health Organization

The World Health Organization (WHO) supports countries seeking to strengthen their health financing systems.

Its work is guided by a 2005 World Health Assembly resolution that urges countries to develop health financing systems that allow all people access to needed services while avoiding catastrophic expenditure and impoverishment.

In 2008, staff from the Department of Health Systems Financing at WHO assisted IHME in accessing and answering questions about WHO National Health Accounts data on public financing of health. This consultation and collaboration improved our understanding of where WHO data comes from and contributed to a cross-country comparison of public financing of health using data from multiple sources.
