The George Institute
The George Institute, India, is working to improve the health of millions of people worldwide by providing evidence to guide critical health decisions, targeting global epidemics, and focusing on vulnerable populations.
The George Institute, India, was a collaborating member of the Population Health Metrics Research Consortium (PHMRC). The project was funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, as part of the Grand Challenges in Global Health initiative #13 to develop technologies that permit quantitative assessment of population health status.
George Institute researchers led the PHMRC research site in Andhra Pradesh, India, through a collaboration established by the University of Queensland. The research team has collected household surveys, a census of all households, and validated verbal autopsy data. The data collected were analyzed at IHME and used to develop methods for better quantifying population health.
