The mission of the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, is to contribute to the development of a knowledge-based society with social sensitivity, ethical rectitude, and economic prosperity through education, research, dissemination of knowledge, and active participation in national policy formulation and development.
As of 2011, the University of Peradeniya and IHME are collaborating with the Sri Lankan Ministry of Health to collect and analyze costs and constraints information from the nation’s health system. Experts from the University of Colombo will also participate in researching costs and constraints to effective coverage and utilization of health interventions.
The University of Peradeniya and Ministry of Health will undertake primary data collection at a range of health facilities. A compilation of other data sources maintained by the Ministry of Health will complement the new data. Analyses will examine the cost of different facilities and intervention combinations. Analyses will also examine the nature and magnitude of constraints, particularly supply-side constraints. The survey instrument is based on a core survey implemented in approximately 15 other countries.
The survey will provide needed data to calculate both cost effectiveness estimates and optimal resource allocation assessments of different intervention-platform combinations.
This work is part of the Access, Bottlenecks, Costs, and Equity project.
