Collaborator
The Department of Global Health at the University of Tokyo, the oldest national university in Japan, is the first graduate school specializing in international health in the country.
Dr. Kenji Shibuya at the University of Tokyo is a member of the core team of the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2010. They are engaged in helping to refine the final estimates of burden of disease for more than 200 conditions and approximately 40 risk factors. Faculty from the university also served on the Steering Committee for the Global Congress on Verbal Autopsy, held in early 2011 in Indonesia.
The University of Tokyo is collaborating with IHME researchers to analyze the costs associated with the Japanese health system. This endeavor, linked with both the Disease Control Priorities Network and the Access, Bottlenecks, Costs, and Equity project, will help researchers and policymakers understand costs across a variety of facilities and in support of multiple interventions.
In addition to analyzing trends particular to Japan, the results will be used in global cost effectiveness and optimal resource allocation calculations for a range of interventions. Other research by University of Tokyo faculty examined data related to functional health status and to interventions in Japan.
