IHME has collaborated with the researchers working on the Open Data Kit project to develop the Population Health Metrics Research Consortium (PHMRC) verbal autopsy instrument into a platform that can be administered using handheld devices.

The Department of Computer Science & Engineering began collaborating with IHME in 2011 on the PHMRC project and continues to do so as the survey tool is further developed.
