Cause of Death in trends the United States and Australia, 1970-2006

One way to measure the success of a country's health system is to analyze the probability that a 15-year-old in that country will die before reaching age 60 if mortality trends in that country remained the same. Use this interactive tool to compare this probability of death through trends over time in both the United States and Australia. The two charts, below, allow for comparisons by year, gender, and leading causes of death.

To use the tool:

  1. Choose the cause of death you would like to compare in the drop-down menu for each country chart, or simply click on the cause of death directly in the chart itself.
  2. Then, click on which gender you would like to compare in each country chart.
  3. The charts will change according the fields you choose.
