Master of Public Health in Health Metrics and Evaluation

The Master of Public Health (MPH) degree in the Health Metrics and Evaluation (HME) track is designed for students who intend to pursue careers in quantitative research, methods and modeling development, survey design and analysis, health system and program evaluation, policy analysis, or academia. The HME track builds on the MPH core curriculum with a set of unique required courses and elective courses to develop competencies in the following areas:

  • Population health and health system performance measurement
  • Statistical methods and analytical techniques related to global health measurement
  • Evaluation studies
  • Programming in statistical packages
  • Program/survey design and evaluation

Course work is highly interdisciplinary, and faculty and courses come from across campus, with a concentration of resources from IHME.

Applicants to the HME track must seek admission through the Department of Global Health’s MPH program. In addition to meeting departmental admissions requirements, successful applicants will have demonstrated strong quantitative skills through undergraduate courses or research and through high scores on the quantitative part of the GRE (ideally above 700) or MCAT. Extensive work experience in developing countries is not an entry requirement.
