Peter Speyer, MBE, MBA, is Director of the Global Health Data Exchange at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME). He oversees the creation and implementation of a platform for data management and data sharing, and supports and coordinates the Institute’s data seeking and data management activities.

Peter is a seasoned strategy and product management professional with extensive experience in negotiating license agreements and interfacing between creative, marketing, sales, and IT teams. His expertise also extends to effectively developing and managing external partnerships.

Prior to joining the Institute, Peter spent most of his career in strategy and product management positions in the media industry, working most recently for Corbis, an image licensing company. Peter worked in a number of leadership positions at Corbis, including Director of Market Strategy, where he invigorated the company’s customer focus and introduced customer-centric products and marketing activities. Peter was also Director of Product Management, leading the team responsible for accelerating growth and profitability for the company in negotiating contracts for content sourcing and distribution.

While working for the tourism company Thomas Cook and the global media company Bertelsmann, Peter was intricately involved in corporate strategy. He implemented five-year business plans in all business units with both corporate and country components while at Thomas Cook. As Director of Content Asset Management for RTL, Bertelsmann’s TV unit in Germany, Peter built up the department, oversaw the optimization of foreign content licenses, and was responsible for programming sales in German-speaking Europe.

He holds an MBA from Temple University in Philadelphia and a Master’s in Business and Engineering from the University of Karlsruhe, Germany. Peter is also multilingual, speaking German, English, French, and Spanish.
